Campaigners Unite in Global Call for Action for DRS

Less than 24 hours after Scotland became the first part of the UK to announce details of such a scheme, environmental campaigners across the globe united in an international day of action to urge more countries to adopt a deposit return scheme (DRS) for drinks cans and bottles.

At 9:00am local time on May 9, 2019 in each country, over a 24-hour period, the network of groups from 22 countries across five continents released a series of aerial photographs and videos of messages written on hillsides, beaches and buildings calling for a ‘Clean Planet’. The global stunt was aimed at raising awareness of the environmental impact of drinks packaging, with an international call for action for governments across the world to expand, update or introduce deposit legislation in each country respectively, as the best solution to drinks container pollution. Below are some images from the day.
