Reuse and Recycling through Deposit Systems

Reloop is opening the season with a conference and a study tour of Reuse and Recycling through DRS in Riga, Latvia.

Participation in the conference will also be possible online.

We will address the issues related to collection of single use and refillable beverage containers, discuss preparation for recycling and reuse, look into the concept of a standard refillable container and be able to witness operational aspects of a deposit system as a collection method for packaging waste.

This event is organised by Reloop and DIO under the auspices of State Environmental Service of the Republic of Latvia.

About Laura

Holding Bachelor and Master’s Degree in Political Science Laura’s professional career for last 15 years has been dedicated to development planning on national, regional, local government and institutional level, focusing on interior policy planning processes in Latvia. For last 3 years this knowledge has been past not just to organizations Laura was working in, but also to students at the University of Latvia studying Political Science, being a guest lecturer there. 2021 was a turning point in Laura’s career putting environmental protection issues on the top of professional agenda, including becoming one of the key team members working on the introduction of the deposit system in Latvia. This, in Laura’s opinion, is one of the most important large scale environmental reforms Latvia has recently implemented.

About Miks

Miks Stūrītis has led the implementation of DRS in Latvia and currently is CEO of DRS operator DIO. Prior to joining DRS project Miks has been working in senior management positions in construction, telecommunications, system engineering, telemetry product development and logistics.

About Martin

Martin has a background as Chemical Engineer and has work with oil production, sustainable recycling of material and logistics for some 20 years before joining Dansk Retursystem. Dansk Retursystem operates the deposit return system for drinking containers in Denmark. He has been at Dansk Retursystem for seven years and has worked with operations and development of counting, sorting and supply chain before his current role. Today Martin is Head of Business Development at Dansk Retursystem. His responsibilities included monitoring of technical trends, strategic developments and business opportunities for Dansk Retursystem.
