Reloop Event - Circular Economy

Conference on Mixed Waste Sorting

Together with Zero Waste Europe and the European Committee of the Regions, Reloop is excited to announce that we will be hosting a conference, “Mixed Waste Sorting: The next frontier for the circular economy.” The conference will take place on March 21, 2023, in Brussels, Belgium, from 9 AM to 4 PM CET.

Representatives from the European Commission, European Parliament, Member States, and key members of the value chain, including the plastics and metals sectors, have been invited to share their expertise on the introduction of Mixed Waste Sorting (MWS) as an additional tool for the recovery and recirculation of Europe’s valuable resources. This conference is a timely response to the ongoing revision of the Waste Framework Directive, which is due to be proposed by the European Commission in Q2 of 2023.

MWS is gaining attention across Europe, as newer operations in countries like Sweden, Norway, Poland, Belgium, and the Netherlands continue to show positive results by extracting plastics, textiles, and metals for recycling. The conference’s agenda aims to discuss how MWS can contribute to increasing circularity and reducing reliance on virgin inputs. The net impact of MWS is that valuable European resources that are part of the waste stream get recycled instead of being incinerated, buried in landfills, or residuals of biological treatment.

We believe that this conference presents a great opportunity for regional and national governments, MWS operators, recyclers, experts, and technology providers from across Europe to offer their expertise on the introduction of MWS as an additional tool for the material recovery and recirculation of Europe’s valuable resources.
