Reloop News - Deposit Return

The Innovation Series (episode 2): what is a best-in-class deposit return system?

“We’re seeing brand owners around the world recognising that we have a real problem with beverage containers. Littered, wasted, around the world. And this is a proven solution that works, and it’s not that costly.”

Reloop is back with another episode in our Innovation Series, bringing you expert analysis on emerging issues in the circular economy world. This time, we take a look at “best-in-class” deposit return systems.

We hear from Reloop CEO Clarissa Morawski on what makes a best-in-class system and why it makes sense to have them in the first place.

Clarissa gives her take on whether introducing deposit return systems decreases sales, why deposit return targets matter, and why meaningful deposit levels and incentives will ensure a successful system.

“We’re talking about a system that has the ability to recover over 90 per cent, top quality material, sorted, ready for closed loop recycling, that can get loop after loop after loop. That is real value for money,” adds Clarissa.

Because at Reloop, “we want to make sure that as governments embark on new deposit return systems all over the world, as they are, they can base their new systems on what we already know are elements of best-in-class!”
