New analysis confirms strong public backing for a mixed deposit return system in France.
A Reloop survey, conducted by Ipsos BVA, reveals that 93% of people in France support the introduction of a mixed deposit system for the reuse and recycling of beverage containers.
The report also explores public views on littering and recycling more broadly, offering valuable insight into how citizens see the role of deposit return in tackling these issues.

A new Ipsos BVA survey for Reloop, offers fresh insight into French attitudes towards a national deposit system.
Reuse in France
Since June 2025, a pilot project led by the eco-organisation CITEO has been running across four French regions (Pays-de-la-Loire, Brittany, Normandy and Hauts-de-France), with the aim of reaching 16 million citizens by the end of 2026. The project enables consumers to purchase products in returnable, reusable packaging.
These real-world trials demonstrate that such a system is entirely feasible. At the same time, the Ipsos BVA survey for Reloop shows that public demand already far outstrips what is currently available.

A new survey conducted for Reloop shows strong public backing for a scheme designed to enhance the reuse and recycling of beverage containers.
“The figures are clear. More than 9 out of 10 French people support a mixed deposit system for the reuse and recycling of beverage containers. The challenge now is to accelerate the process from local experimentation to nationwide implementation.”
